Vice President: Government will reduce the import of LPG
"Import of LPG has increased dramatically and will continue in the future. Consequently, it needs more investment to increase production capacity in the country," he said while giving a speech in the World LPG Forum-25 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday.
According to him, the use of LPG has increased rapidly following the success of kerosene to LPG since 2007.
Boediono also said the government would increase the availability of infrastructure and fix gas prices.
Director General of Oil and Mineral Resources Ministry, Evita Legowo said the reduction in the import of LPG can be done in three ways.
First, the increase in domestic LPG production from refinery fuel oil. LPG is a byproduct of fuel refineries.
"The more the refinery fuel, LPG production then more and more," he said.
The government has programmed the construction of three oil refineries are targeted to start production from 2018 to 2019.
Second, increasing LPG production from natural gas and replace it with the last dimethyl ether (DME).
Today, he continued, the government is preparing rules DME specification for the development of these fuels.
According to Evita, an investor who is preparing the land as a place of production of DME in Banten, still waiting for the rules of that specification.
Meanwhile, Pertamina president director Karen Agustiawan said the government should require all manufacturers to produce LPG gas.
Currently, the natural gas produced in the country is not separated components C3 and C4, which is the raw material of LPG.
"In the future, should be considered` mandatory `so that components C3 and C4 were used as LPG," he said.
Pertamina itself, he added, was to separate the components C3 and C4 to be LPG.
LPG consumption nationwide reach five million tons per year with details of 2.2 million tonnes supplied from within the country and the remaining 2.8 million tons of imports.
