ADB focus of work on energy efficiency projects in Indonesia
"In Indonesia, we are conducting studies for several projects. We are more focused on improving the efficiency of the production process (energy) already exists," said Director General of ADB's Sustainable Development Department Seethapathy Chander on the sidelines of the Clean Energy Expo Asia (CEEA) 2012 in Bangkok, Wednesday.
According to him, the ADB among others, had the initiative to connect with Sabah Sarawak in Malaysia on Borneo island to supply electricity at a cheaper price for the Indonesian part of the island.
"The construction of the gas pipeline that connects Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia is our second initiative," added Chander, who joined ADB as energy experts for various projects in Bangladesh, India, Maldives and Laos.
ADB focuses its support in the effort to provide efficient energy for a number of areas because until now the price of electricity in parts of rural Indonesia is still high.
"But apart from that we also support projects supplying electricity to the countryside with wind power and biofuels, because in a fertile area in Indonesia as the production of solar electricity that need vast land is not always efficient. Would be better if the fertile land was used for activities Another productive as agriculture, "said Chander.
ADB, he said, was also working on production projects with geothermal energy in Indonesia. ADB in the project include working on projects Sarulla Geothermal, geothermal power plant in North Sumatra, by providing a loan of about 250 million U.S. dollars.
Once the project is the provision of energy to remote areas and the development of geothermal power production in Indonesia, he said, ADB will continue to make efforts to support the development of clean energy and renewable energy in Indonesia.
"Slowly we want to increase the role of Indonesia," said Chander Seethapathy.
